When Hannah told me she was a dancer, I knew we had to incorporate movement into her senior portrait session. I told her to bring her ballet shoes and we headed to Blackstone River and Canal Heritage State Park in August, where summer was still in full swing with its golden fields and lush greenery.
We scheduled the session for an hour before sunset when the sun hits just right and everything looks like a scene from an indie film about self-discovery. Hannah brought it all: effortless soft-focus daydream vibes, a little bit of mystery, and a whole lot of “I know I look good, but I’ll pretend I’m not thinking about it” energy. When I learned that her favorite footwear is none at all, I told her to just kick off the shoes and somehow she still looked graceful. Meanwhile I tripped on my own bag twice but still managed to capture the moment.
